In the case of mixing on two turntables, with tracks running on both, you should be able to do some things. Should you want to deal with ordinary sounds like the hi-hat, you may want to try this setup. You may want to look into the second turntable first and give attention to regular noise. By listening to the second record first, sounds from each turntable can be differentiated and can be assessed if they are even synchronized. If it does happen that the second track comes in more early than the first, you will have to reduce the speed on the respective turntable by pitching it down. You may then start again for another test. If the drive would otherwise come later than the first track, then you should hasten the second turntable appropriately. You should not stop trying to make the sounds right in order for you to work at best.

A skill which you need to master is beatmixing or beat-matching, which allows you to successfully set clock speeds at the same time. Skilled DJs make beat-matching an expertise. Some genres of music are particularly inclined to need the use of beatmixing, such as Techno or House. Otherwise, if you are more inclined to hip-hop, other skills should be mastered like scratching and Beatjuggling.

Under the training of DJ London, I was able to do two skills masterfully which are the Baby Scratch and the Transform Scratch Drag. The Baby Scratch is quite simple and can be done by anyone with no background as a DJ, as it is basically employed by maneuvering the plate forward or backward. On another note, the Transform Scratch Drag involves manipulating the sound by moving the plate rapidly at first and then slowing it down afterwards. This gives in for different sounds as a faster plate movement basically means heightened sound pitch while slower plate movement makes for lowered sound pitch. To head start using these two skills, just turn off the crossfader and place the plate at starting position. The late moves along with the turning on of the crossfader. At an opposite end, the plate will naturally return to initial position once the crossfader is turned off.

These techniques require two functional turntables. Both turntables must have available headsets and cross-faders. In fact, both turntables must be as alike as each other. Otherwise, beat-matching will be impossible.

At present times, the use of technology has enabled man to do mixing through computer software. The use of turntables is not as famous anymore. Present mixing software can manipulate sounds even more powerfully than turntables. DJs can do everything on the computer, and this makes for more creative remixes.
